When i can do tax return?

You can start procedure In the middle of January following year you worked In USA. You should receive your W2 or 1099 forms by the Middle of February. (employers must mail them by the end of January. Deadline is about April 15th for everyone who expects to pay income taxes. If we expect tax returns the deadline is 3 years)

How long does tax return procedure takes?

How can i receive my tax refund?

What kind of documents do i need to start tax refund?

What is W-2 form?

W-2 form is issued by your employer at the end of the financial year (after December 31st). Information about your earnings and tax deductions for the entire period of employment in the company is written in this form.

During the first week of your work in the USA you will fill in a form W-4 (Employee’s Withholding Allowance Certificate). Make sure to write your home address of your country in this form. You should give the address where you will be able to receive letters after New Year. W-2 form will be mailed to this address.

After termination of your employment, please double check that your employer has your permanent residence address of your country.

You will need W-2 form for refunding your taxes. According to the laws of the USA all employers must send W-2 forms to their employees till the 15th of February. One copy of W-2 form is sent to the US Tax Authorities. To make sure your W-2 form does not get lost in the post, you can ask for a copy of it to be sent to your e-mail.

What is payslip?

Employees receive their wage by a check every week. The check is accompanied by pay slip. The pay slip contains information on your income and tax deductions for the last week (“CURRENT”) and the entire period of employment in the company (“YEAR TO DATE” or “YTD”). For tax refund purposes, information in the field “Year to date” from your last pay slip is needed. You should keep the pay slips from all your jobs even if you did not pay taxes there because ALL your income must be shown when refunding taxes.

What is Social Security Number?

You will find it on your Social Security Card Or W2 ( 1099 ) form.

What if I do not have Social Security Number?

If you do not have the Social Security Card, it does not mean that there was no Social Security Number issued for you. The Social Security Number can be written down on the letter from Social Security Administration, on W-2 form or last pay check. Received 1099G form?

If you worked In USA before and received state income tax refund you got this form. In certain cases it is consider as income for the year when this refund was received.
